From Blue Zones to Living Blue Company | Amersfoort
During the Blue Zone Festival in Amersfoort, Michel Poulain and Julie Saffery delivered a joint masterclass exploring how the principles observed in Blue Zones can be translated into today’s environments.
Michel Poulain shared the foundations of Blue Zones based on decades of research and field observations of centenarian populations around the world. His work highlights a key idea: longevity is not the result of a method, but of environments that naturally support healthy ways of living.
Julie Saffery then introduced the concept of “Living Blue Company”, illustrating how these principles can be applied within organizations.
As we spend a significant part of our lives at work, the workplace becomes a powerful lever to implement these principles in a tangible way. It is not about asking individuals to change, but about designing environments that make healthier behaviours easier and more natural.
This approach is one expression of a broader vision carried by Living Blue Zone: creating environments — in all areas of life — that support wellbeing, connection and meaning.
Together, this masterclass highlighted an essential shift: lasting change does not come from individual effort alone, but from environments designed to support life.
